I Finally Read The Hunger Games!! And a Cover Reveal for Blackwood

Okay, no need to introduce it or tell you where to get it. It's everywhere, even the grocery store! But the point is, I'm now like you (well, just on this one point) I have finally read The Hunger Games!!!  And guess what?   It lived up to the hype!  I was so tense through the whole thing I don't think I relaxed until the last page and even now, I'm worried about what's going to happen in District 12.  So, I'm gonna be buying the next two books right away, but what I don't know is-What's in the next two books?  No, don't tell me! I'm going to read it! This is the second book I allowed myself  to read for enjoyment this month and it was awesome! And just before the movie came out! I had to read it because I have to see the movie. Some of it was filmed in Shelby which is here in North Carolina near me! So, you know, I have to show some Carolina pride and support The Hunger Games!!

I have a cover reveal
This is for the book Blackwood that is being published by Strange Chemistry in the Fall.
Below is the cover without the title or the author's name. It's done by Steven Wood.

And here's the book Blurb to go with it!

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond

On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.

Miranda, a misfit girl from the island's most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can't dodge is each other.

I love the cover and the book synopsis! I can't wait for this one to come out!!

Happy reading!
Heather

    1. That going to the movies thing aint' set in stone. Something always seems to come up. Like the oldest wants to spend the night away and we don't trust the 12 yr old not to burn the house down. He might want to come. Though come to think of it, I don't think the hubs wants to go. So maybe 12 yr old and I will go. After the crowd thins.

  2. YAY HEATHER, WELCOME TO THE HUNGER GAME FAN CLUB!!!! Such a great story:) The first book is definitely my favorite, but I can't wait to see what you think of the other two. And that cover is stunning, I'm super excited to see what it will look like with the type in place!

    1. I am here! I'm waiting on the other two. Checked Tar-ghee- They are selling in hardback and I refuse to pay that price. So I will check the bookstore when I can get down there. Or Amazon. Don't have an indie close by.

Love that cover. I'll show you when the type is in place. And hopefully get to review it!

  3. I just did a re-read this past weekend. I read it a few years ago (recommended & loaned to me by a friend), but I wasn't really reading books like this back then So...while I liked it, I wasn't into it as much as other people. The re-read for me was definitely better this time around. I enjoyed it much more (4 out of 5 stars). While I'm still not "in love" with it like most people (I have no idea why-LOL), I am very much looking forward to reading the other two books in the trilogy, which I will be doing soon. I am really looking forward to seeing the movie! :-)

    1. Like I said, for me, it lived up to the hype. I loved the tension and how the victor (trying not to give anything away here) won and even the subterfuge. It really was a game! A despicable one. It's like Survivor. Wonder if that's where the idea came from partly although this is extreme. And while Katniss isn't the warmest person, I had to admire her determination. And Peeta's though he fought for a different reason. And that person at the end. Good God, I can't imagine that scene in the movie! Blech!

  4. Yay! I'm glad you finally got to read The Hunger Games. :D That's awesome. And I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I wasn't completely impressed, but I definitely see why everyone loves it so much!

And that cover is quite gorgeous. o:

    1. There were some parts to it that could be improved but I think it was the first to break out the dystopian genre. Or be a dystopian or whatever. I think The City of Ember was the first book I read like that or maybe The Giver. But this is the first that had that widespread appeal. (like I'm an expert)

I love that cover. Can't figure what it has to do with the book, but hope they tie in!

  5. STOP EET! I haven't read the Hunger Games yet. :( I have them here on my tbr, but they sit unread. I know... I'm a bad blogger. :'(

Oh and great cover reveal. Sounds like an interesting book!

    1. OMG, I thought I was the last person on the planet that hadn't read it! Even my 12 yr old is carrying it around from the library reading it! He's like "Mom, you're reading something the kids in my school read." I said,"You know I have the book, right?" "Yeah." End of convo. You're not a bad blogger, just busy. I still haven't read Cassie Clare's books. Any of them and I have the first three. So don't feel bad. (Jeez even my replies are long!)

  6. Yay Heather!!!

    1. I hope you're doing a review on your blog even though you're doing the Atticus Q and A. I can't wait to see what people think!

  7. You are right, its everywhere. I have heard its disappointing though (the movie, not the books) - but it can seem that way when you're so close to the book. A book is rarely even beaten by the movie (unless the book is flawed and the movie can improve on it - rare). Hope you love it though. I've decided to try it the other way around - watch the movie and then read the book. I'm hoping this way I can enjoy both without a check list forming in my mind of all the failures of the movie (like I did with Twilight - bleh). Great cover reveal too btw. Yummy! :) X

    1. Since I just read HG and I'm not all fan girly about it, I'm hoping I like the movie just as much. Though knowing me, we won't even go! Also, just to let you know, Strange Chemistry is out of the UK so these books will be available from there. They are generally YA, but they are closer to horror than not. And check out Angry Robot Books. They are also a UK company.

    1. Yes! I just asked my 12 yr old to go with me. He said yes. They don't have school next Friday so we'll try to go then. We need to wait for the crowds to thin out.

  9. I got to see The Hunger Games movie last night, and I really enjoyed it! Glad to hear you're jumping on the bandwagon! It really is a great series.

Also, I love that cover! I've always been interested in the whole Roanoke Island mystery, so it might have to be a book I check out!

  10. Yay for The Hunger Games! I only just read them in January, but I loved them! I was crying so hard through that series. Gah, I'm going to be a mess when I see the movie (I already start crying whenever I see the clip of the reaping in the trailers!)

I love the cover for the Roanoke book! I can't wait to read that one. Strange Chemistry has some fantastic looking books coming out. I think that one and the one about the pirate assassin are my most anticipated.
