So, I was like wow reading this novel. Snappy writing and dialogue. Understandable time travel. Mystery, a little romance, not insta-love, but insta crush. And a really smart MC. Really smart. She knows herself so well and recognizes her motivations, her actions. I wish I had the self control and presence of mind she does.

So, let's get to it.

Bianca Butterman- I believe she is 18 or 19, it's not really relevant. She is the face of Butterman Time Travel. She books the trips and even rides along on some of the trips. She is almost certified to be a solo time traveler. And she is a strict rule follower. You have to be. Time travel is not something you can mess around with. A FIRM strict rule follower. Nothing can make her change her mind. And when she just happens to take Golden Boy, Tristan Helms on a solo trip, required for her license, she makes sure he understands, she is in charge and he has to do what she says. She is the Guide! A few other choice things you should know- she is not into tweenie bubble gum pop, the kind Tristan Helms boy band U-Turn plays. She is a "spunker" or a "black bettie" I'm thinking Goth by the way she's described. Though she doesn't have the dark attitude that goes with a goth chick. But she actually is more like the pin-up girl Bettie Page or that's who she wants to be like. She nicknames the DOT agent inspecting her parent's agency Garth Vader- her name is Agent Garth. And she's not afraid to call The Tristan Helms "Golden Boy" to his face. She also is a work in progress and learns how to bend when it is absolutely necessary. I really like Bianca.

Tristan "Golden Boy" Helms- We don't get into his head a lot, not really, but he is a driving force in the action in the novel. He is the bend in the otherwise straight as a stick Bianca. He is charming, boy band members usually are, but he is fresh out of rehab. He doesn't show any vulnerability, but shows constant enthusiasm, support, and if there's trouble, he just throws money at it. What can't be cured with his money?
A lot, but he's kind of like a puppy dog, about as deep, and cute and lovable.

The secondary characters aren't very well developed, but they only make brief appearances in the novel. Mom and Dad are a united front. Best friend Kayla appears wise and supportive. Agent Garth is troublesome.

World/Setting- These two are the same and different. The year is 2069 and time travel is available for the rich in the private sector. The Butterman Time Travel agency is one of only 5 time travel agencies in the private sector. The DOT wants to shut all of them down, but we aren't sure why until very late in the story. It's fine, it makes the mystery of Agent Vader's peculiar behavior even more confusing until the end. Plus, there is time travel, so the setting is changing. I would love to comment on one place that Tristan and Bianca traveled to, I would just say that it seemed as if the author was actually there from her descriptions but I don't think she is old enough to have been there. She did her research.

The story- I loved the story! Tristan hits the Butterman travel agency during a difficult time, they are under audit by Agent Garth and the DOT. But, they aren't restricted from travel, so Bianca uses his trip to get her certification. And things just go from bad to worse. Seems reading the rule book wasn't high on Tristan's list so he breaks a lot of rules which could alter his future. Bianca quickly starts to fall for his good looks and charms, but she is smart enough to remind herself of the short time she's known him and who he is and who she is. There are some very interesting things that happen in different time periods and there is no sitting around hemming and hawing about what to do. The pacing is fast, the story moves along and you don't get slowed down with technical terminology. I loved this story and can't wait for the second novel. It is tied up nicely, but there is definitely more to the story!

I can't leave this alone without listing some of my favorite quotes:

"Apparently, I'm invisible. His superstar status sucks the ocular energy right from people's sockets, but whatever."
"Right now I'm just a sideshow at this carnival, and trying to get any control of myself or the situation only confounds me further."
"Guess I somehow managed to waltz through life and miss the universal drug etiquette memo."
"Guess you can take the spotlight off the superstar, but you can't take the superstar out of his spotlight."

I thought they were funny, maybe out of context they aren't, but they still seem funny to me. All observations from Bianca.

I very much recommend this novel to anyone interested in time travel novels (is that sci-fi), it's called New Adult, but I didn't see anything that I consider New Adult. There is some drug use, that's it. Maybe in later novels. There was some sexual innuendo. It's a fast paced novel with a great MC and a beginning romance.

I received a copy of this novel for review for the blog tour from the author through the blog tour host. I received no compensation for my review.

  1. Oooo Heather this sounds awesome!! What an amazing idea for a story - a Time Travel Agency :))) Woot! Thanks for featuring this book today, it definitely goes on my TBR pile!

    1. Hope you like it Danny! Thanks for stopping by to check it out!

    2. I know Danny! You'll like Tristan. He's flawed, but adorable. These are not broken needing to be fixed characters. I'm hoping to get more of Tristan's pt of view in the next novel.

  2. Heather thanks so much for your review and for having me here today! So glad you enjoyed Bianca's adventures! Rock on!

    1. Oh, you are so welcome! I enjoyed it so much! I just wish I could go back in time and break the rules, just a teeny tiny bit :) !

  3. Wow, I really need to read this book! I know Candace was really excited over it, but hearing your reaction makes me even more interested. It's such an interesting story and setting for NA, too.

    Wendy @ The Midnight Garden

    1. Thanks Wendy! Hope you get a chance to check it out! Def a different take on NA--like a futuristic contemporary. :)

    2. Wendy it is very different from any NA I have read. It really worked for me b/c I'm not into all the drama and sex that seems to go with NA. This was an adventure, fun, but with a lot of consequences if Bianca or Tristan screwed up. And like I said, I liked Bianca so much for realizing what was going on with her feelings and her reactions. Such a smart MC!

  4. I LOVE your review Heather! You said things so well, it's perfect! I just adored Bianca too! Thank you so much for giving this a try and hosting a tour stop today!

    1. Thank you Candace! This one really hit my reading buttons. I did love Bianca and I think that PK Hrezo was so smart to write her the way she did. And Tristan the way he is. I just love it!

  5. Bianca sounds like a character that I would enjoy as the face of the series as well as the premise.

    1. Well said Brandi! She is definitely a wonderful MC! And it is a great start to the series!

    2. Thanks Brandi! She was so much fun to write, and sorta set in her ways too. ;)

  6. I have been seeing this around and I want to read it as I love books on time travel. Glad it is quick paced with strong main characters and it sounds like the author did a good job with the research. I would have done this tour if it hadn't been during Fire and Ice.

    1. I don't blame you. I know that takes a lot of time and you are doing a fabulous job!! This does have a romance in it, but not strong. Not yet. It has the foundations of one. I just love how the author wrote it. You'll like it, too. It's definitely something you should read.

    2. Yes I'm getting to know you Heidi! Glad to meet you in the ol blogosphere here. :)

      And Heather, you're awesome!

  7. I haven't seen this around but I love the cover, and excited about the fact that it has strong world-building elements, and adore its New Adult label since I'm always on the lookout for New Adult novels that aren't the same-old contemporary romances. Fantastic review, Heather, and thanks for introducing this one to me! :)

    1. Thanks Keertana! I agree, it's exciting that NA is branching out more and more. NA spec fic authors appreciate readers support to show NA can be more than contemp romance too. :)

    2. I almost can't read NA because of the romances. It's just too much drama for me. And explicit. But yes, this one is great in that it is so very different from that. The world building, it is a specific event, from the past that they attend, that just makes it seem so real, as if PK was there. I know there isn't any way she could have been, but she must have researched it. It made the experience of being there seem very real. And I don't want to be there ever again. Yuck.

  8. I really enjoy time travel stories and this one has been catching my eye today. I saw another review who also raved about it. It sounds character driven and fast paced, but also creative like with the whole company controlling the time travel etc. I also like that the romance is not stealing center stage like it sometimes does. I prefer it like this, setting the foundation for an actually realistic budding romance ya know. Sounds like a great start to an exciting series that I will have to check out for sure!

    1. Glad it caught your attention Giselle. I'm a romance on the side kinda girl too, so it def stays in the subplot. :)
      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Oh Giselle the romance definitely takes a back seat in this. It's there enough for those of us that like romance in our books, but like I wrote, Bianca is a very smart MC and she realizes two days is not enough to know someone. She recognizes what she's feeling. I really liked how well done the romance part of it was done. And there is a lot of time loops and mystery surrounding the DOT. I have not read a novel where the DOT was the bad guy. Kinda funny,in a unique sort of way.

  9. This sounds like a book I would enjoy. So want to see what the context for those quotes are now! You know I love a snappy comeback! I also love a good character driven book. So need to check this one out. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
